Playalinda, Canaveral Park Artemis Launch Closures

The Space Coast is anticipating between 100,000-200,000 people to descend on Brevard County for the #Artemis launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on August 29, 2022, with a 2-hour launch window opening at 08:33 am.

The refuge will be closed ahead of the historic Artemis I rocket launch. Kennedy Space Center security has stated that they will close the roads leading into the Refuge at 4am on Sunday, August 28th

Only badged employees will be allowed to enter through the west entrance adjacent to Parrish Park and the Max Brewer Bridge. Security Guards will also be posted south of the Haulover Canal blocking any entry beyond Bairs Cove.

Those who enter by boat through the Haulover Canal will find the Mosquito Lagoon closed south of the BioLab boat ramp.

Conservation officers will be on the water enforcing this closure. These closures are for safety reasons.

While we know Space Coast residents and visitors are excited about this historic launch, road users will be impacted by traffic congestion.

The heaviest traffic is expected between 5:00 am and 10:00 am on the day of the launch. In addition to the launch, there will also be FIVE cruise ships at Port Canaveral that morning, adding to the influx of people on our roadways. Please plan accordingly.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀:
If you live or work in the north, central, and beachside areas, plan accordingly and stay off the roadways if possible to avoid traffic congestion.
If you must travel along these corridors, please plan for extra commute time to work and school.
Consider running errands over the weekend before the launch to avoid traffic.
ALWAYS watch for and yield to pedestrians/bicyclists crossing along US1, Cheney Hwy(Hwy50) & SR406(Garden Street)
Obey ALL traffic laws. Do not run red lights, speed, or drive distracted.
